Cellist Brant Taylor has been a CSO member since his appointment by Daniel Barenboim in 1998. He has also pursued a career of chamber music, solo appearances with orchestra, and forays into the popular genre with Pink Martini. He has b
een a member of the award winning Everest Quartet. In Chicago, Mr. Taylor’s recital appearances have included the Dame Myra Hess Concerts and the Ravinia Festival’s Rising Stars recital series. He has appeared with the Chicago Chamber Musicians and on the CSO series, MusicNOW. In 1997 he was a member of the New World Symphony to which he has returned as soloist under the baton of Michael Tilson-Thomas.
Mr.Taylor is a frequent performer and teacher at festivals here and abroad including the Aspen Music Festival and Festival der Zukunft in Ernen, Switzerland. He has served as principal cellist of the Arizona Musicfest Orchestra since 2006.
As teacher of cello and chamber music, Mr. Taylor has served at Chicago College of Performing Arts and Northwestern University’s National High School Music Institute. Currently he is at DePaul University School of Music. He holds a bachelor of music degree and a performer’s certificate from Eastman. His master of music degree is from Indiana University. His primary teachers have been Janos Starker and Paul Katz.
